If you are from Newbury Park and have kids in Youth Sports, you are sure to know who he is! Verne Merrill was the President for the Newbury Park Steelers for many years. He has now retired with his wife to Hawaii but remains a huge asset behind the scenes to all involved in the Steelers Organization.
Thank you Verne for leaving an awesome legacy for the kids of the Conejo Valley.

In 2012 members of the Peewee team were invited to participate in a Doritos Crash the Superbowl commercial shoot. The commercial was filmed at Burroughs High School in Burbank. There was another team there that day, the LA Demos. the boys and coaches hit it off that day and of course a friendly challenge took place. On December 1st 2012 the LA Demos Packers and the Newbury Park Steelers played in the first ever Bowl game at the Steelers home stadium. Two games took place that day and the Steelers were victorious!
In 2015 members of the Bantam, Midget and Junior team were invited to work on a Showtime Original Series, Masters of Sex (MOS). The boys spent a total of two days with the production team. The first day Sony Pictures came to us in Newbury Park and set the boys up with uniform fittings and went over the script. The second day was spent on set filming the scene. The boys were in full pads for 9 hours and were treated like real stars. For their efforts they raised a large amount of funds for the Steelers organization. It was also fun for them to see themselves on TV.
